The story of Delix...

Welcome, this is me. My name is Nicole and I am pretty much the cosmos behind Delix. It all started in 2013 and I was on maternity leave with my second baby. I was the least crafty and arty person ever and was planning on returning to my primary teaching job full time when maternity leave finished. Then Christmas came and I realised how expensive personalised gifts were, I had a huge love of Pinterest (thanks to weird and wonderful ideas in teaching!) and stumbled across some hand stamped jewellery. 'That looks so easy,' I thought to myself. After a quick browse of eBay I found some cheap supplies. I was sold. The supplies arrived and I had plans of making some amazing designs. The first piece barely made an imprint. The second jumped all over the blank. I swiftly learned that a stamping block and heavy hammer was crucial and another supply was ordered. It arrived and I gave it another go. It took a lot of practice to produce some alright pieces that at the time I was thrilled to give family and they loved them too. I was now hooked, I then purchased even more supplies and soon worked out that to produce the wonderful pieces I'd been lusting after I would have to invest greatly.

I had entered the rabbit hole. I started a Facebook page and every penny I earnt went back into the business. I learnt lots. For starters, the font I had wasn't suitable for the stainless steel blanks I was working on. I discovered aluminium and its wonderful qualities and developed so many pieces I was extremely proud of. I then learnt more about sterling silver and the amazing world of soldering and rings started appearing.

By 2015 I was juggling a full time teaching career, two children and a small business. We were looking at making some changes in our home and I knew there'd be the perfect space for my own little Delix room and so I took the plunge and handed in my notice. It was petrifying. Exciting. Nerve wracking. And the one of the best decisions I ever made.

We added two more little ones to our family and I again learnt to juggle a new kind of normal and Delix definitely made this possible.

I must admit, it is sometimes difficult and not everyone (youngest especially) agrees with me working lots but I have had the best time ever. I've learnt what I love and this year I've taken a step back into working in schools with a much more manageable timetable. I am extremely lucky to have a lot of support around me, my husband has at times taken over the admin side along with my sister. My parents are often roped into post runs and baby sitting. I have a long term plan for Delix that will see it to continue to evolve and grow and become a brand that you return to again and again for years.

I have met some amazing customers so far and it is lovely to get to know you more and see your fantastic pictures so please keep tagging and sharing pictures so we can see them on social media!

Lets see what 2024 brings...
